Autism is a developmental disability that makes learning language and social skills a challenge. However, these challenges can be overcome with early and intensive behavioral therapy to provide solid habits. By teaching young children with autism foundational skills for learning and socializing, JumpStart Autism Center is able to improve the quality of these children’s lives and give them the best chance for success.
Our Autism Diagnosis Services
We provide autism screening and diagnosis for children between 1 and 10 years of age. An earlier diagnosis provides the best opportunity for early intervention and effective treatment, which is why the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all children be assessed for autism at 18 and 24 months of age.
Diagnosis takes place through a psychological assessment. We will observe the child’s behavior and also review his or her medical, developmental and behavioral background to identify potential signs and symptoms of autism. We compare these findings against diagnostic criteria to see if a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder can be obtained. Our diagnosis is considered a medical diagnosis; however, most schools accept our evaluations as the foundation for an educational diagnosis.
Autism is just one of many potential developmental, learning and intellectual disabilities that may affect a child. In addition to screening for autism, we will also assess a child for the potential of other factors that could coexist with autism or mimic its symptoms. Completing a full psychological assessment helps us to provide an accurate diagnosis, which is crucial to determining the appropriate treatment for any child.
